Watching a guy in Philly do a whole cut with just clippers made me rethink my whole setup

I was at a barber battle in Philadelphia last year and saw a finalist do a perfect fade using only cordless clippers, no guards or scissors. Everyone says you need a full kit, but he proved you can get sharp lines with just one tool and good technique. Has anyone else tried cutting down their tools after seeing something like that?

That's a trend everywhere now, less gear and more skill. People get so caught up buying the perfect tool they forget to master the basics. It's cool to see that mindset in barbering too.

Saw a stylist in Brooklyn do a full shape-up with just a detachable blade clipper, no trimmer. It changed my whole mindset about needing every single tool. I started practicing with just my main clippers and got way better at controlling the lever and angles. Now my daily kit is way smaller and my work is actually cleaner.

I used to think you needed a trimmer for sharp lines, but seeing that in Brooklyn and reading what hannahj49 said totally flipped my view.

Honestly feels like people are making a big deal out of using less stuff. A trimmer is still faster for most of us to get a crisp line, why make the job harder on purpose?
