I used to think a handshake deal was enough for a local job

After a neighbor in my building asked for 'just a few more changes' that took a full weekend, I started using a simple one page contract for everything over $500. Has anyone else had a small job blow up like that?

Honestly, I'd set that contract limit even lower. A weekend of work is way more than five hundred bucks worth of time, you know? Learned the hard way that "just a few changes" can mean a whole new project. A simple agreement just makes it clear for everyone before you even start.

Spot on, @emma_jones. It feels like a lot of people are learning to set hard lines now, not just in work but with their time in general.

A handshake deal is just a fancy way to say "free work weekend.
