My worst negotiation day - lost $600 in 20 minutes flat

Ngl, I had a brutal Wednesday last month. A potential client called me at 2pm and I was so desperate for work I agreed to their rate of $25 an hour for a job I usually charge $45 for. I hung up and realized I just locked myself into a 3 week contract for way less than my bottom line. Has anyone else taken a bad deal on the spot and regretted it?

Next time just quote your highest rate first.

Got taken for a ride last year on a landscaping job. Told this guy my rate was $50 an hour, felt bad about the price, so I talked myself down to $35 before he even said anything. Ended up doing two weeks of hard labor in the sun while he bragged to his neighbor about how he "negotiated" me down. Honestly, I was so mad at myself I could barely sleep for a week. Tbh, that feeling of knowing you sold yourself short sticks with you way longer than the actual money you lose.

Yeah @rowanw91, did you ever figure out why you talked yourself down like that?
