That one client who said my rate was too high then tried to haggle me down at a coffee shop
I met her at a Starbucks downtown and she spent 20 minutes explaining why her budget was tight, then offered me half my price for a commercial HVAC install that took three days, and I asked her if she'd work half her job for half her pay.

Sat there for a whole 20 minutes over a lukewarm latte listening to that pitch? You have the patience of a saint. I would've been out the door after the first "budget is tight" lol.

Tbh @paige_bell81, it's not that deep. People act like sitting through a boring meeting is some kind of heroic act when really it's just being polite for a few minutes. You can zone out and think about your grocery list or something while they ramble. The latte being lukewarm is annoying but not a life tragedy. Walking out after one line about budget would make you look dramatic, not clever. Sometimes you just nod and let people finish, it's not that serious.

Yeah I saw some article last week actually that talked about how our brains literally start checking out after like 10 minutes of someone droning on about budgets and projections. Something about the prefrontal cortex getting tired from having to fake interest the whole time. So honestly you probably did the smart thing by bouncing early, Paige. It's not about being rude it's about knowing your time is worth more than a cold coffee and someone's rambling sales pitch.
