Appreciation post: That Franklin BBQ line finally made sense to me

Went to Austin last weekend for the first time and stood in that 3 hour line at Franklin. I always thought it was hype, but that brisket had a smoke ring so even that I couldn't stop staring at it. Has anyone else had a pilgrimage spot that actually lived up to the wait?

So was the line mostly tourists like you, or did the locals think it was worth it too?

Man, I feel you on this. I had the same thing with a little taco joint in LA, waited an hour and a half in the sun, and when I bit into that al pastor I just stood there like an idiot. It's weird how a place can become this big deal in your head and somehow still beat the hype. I'm glad Franklin didn't let you down, because that kind of letdown after a 3 hour wait would've been brutal. Now you're gonna be chasing that smoke ring forever, and honestly, that's a decent problem to have.
