Chatted with an old timer at a diner who told me burnout isn't about working too much, it's about not shutting off the noise between jobs.

He said he had a rule after 20 years freelancing to take a full 30 minutes between gigs doing nothing productive, and now I realize I've been spending those breaks doomscrolling instead of actually resetting, has anyone else tried a hard stop like that and found it helped?

Totally get where you're coming from. I tried something similar a few years back and it really helped me separate work from everything else, even if it felt weird at first. That old timer sounds like he knew what he was talking about.

Did you feel like you had to force yourself to stick with it at first? I remember the first few weeks were rough for me, I kept checking my phone even though I told myself not to. But after about a month it just became normal and I couldn't go back. @oliver_baker49 nailed it, that old timer probably learned that lesson the hard way too.
