My main client's project got put on hold with no warning last Tuesday
Honestly, it was a huge website redesign that was supposed to fill my next two months. I had already turned down other work for it. Ngl, I panicked for a solid hour. I forced myself to reach out to three past clients that afternoon, and one had a small update job ready to go. Has anyone else had a big project vanish and found a quick way to fill the gap?

Reaching out to past clients is the best move. I keep a short list of people I've worked with before and check in every few months. It's led to more than one small job that turned into something bigger later. Having those relationships already in place makes a huge difference when things fall through.

Last year I lost a three month contract on a Thursday morning. I called two local agencies I sometimes do overflow work for by lunchtime. One of them had a two week rush job they needed help with that Friday. It wasn't much but it covered the gap. Now I keep those contacts on speed dial. You did the right thing calling past clients.

That "short list" @kelly_adams24 mentioned is key. I keep mine in a simple spreadsheet with the last contact date, so I never forget who to check in with. It turns a panic move into a regular habit that finds work.
