A guy at my shop in Dayton refused to let me touch his rear derailleur hanger, and I get it now
He rolled in about 5 minutes before close with a bent hanger on his commuter and asked if he could just watch me straighten it. I told him it was a $15 job and he could pick it up in the morning, but he pulled up a folding chair and stayed put. He wanted to learn the tool himself, so I handed him the alignment gauge and walked him through two small tweaks instead of one big yank. His exact words were "I'd rather bend it slow than break it fast," and honestly that line has stuck with me every time a hanger comes through the door. How many of you all teach the customer the fix versus just doing it and sending them on their way?
