Blew $80 on a Park Tool spoke tension meter and it caught a loose spoke I missed by feel alone

Had a customer's wheel come back with a broken spoke after I eyeballed it, so I bought the meter and it paid for itself on the next three builds, anyone else find those gadgets worth the money?

Nah, I dunno man. Call me old school but I think a guy who knows his feel can catch every loose spoke without dropping 80 bucks on a meter. Spent years building wheels by hand and my fingers never let me down. That meter might catch stuff on the first spin but it won't teach you the touch you get from doing it blind. Real skill kicks in when you can trust your own hands more than a tool.

Real skill kicks in when you can trust your own hands more than a tool" - tell that to my buddy who spent an hour truing a wheel by feel only to find out his eyes were lying the whole time... @the_lucas fancy a blindfolded wheel build-off?
