Can we talk about clients who "forget" to pay until you show up in person

I had a guy in Sandy Springs owe me $2,800 for a water heater swap and repipe job. Three weeks go by, he keeps saying he'll mail a check. Finally I just drove over there on a Friday afternoon with my invoice in hand and suddenly he "found" his checkbook. Why do so many small biz owners make us chase them like this? Anyone else have to physically show up to get paid?

and here's the thing people dont really talk about - some of these guys treat it like a game. like they get a little power rush from seeing you have to come get YOUR money. i had a customer in lawrenceville pull the same thing, soon as i walked in his garage he was all smiles writing the check out. they test to see how much pushback youll give.

Played that game once myself. Guy kept me waiting an hour, then acted all surprised I actually showed up. Handed me the check with this little smirk like he won something. I just stood there counting it out in front of him real slow to make him uncomfortable right back.

Buddy of mine had a guy pull this on him for a lawn job. Dude made him wait on his porch for twenty minutes while he "finished a call." Then he comes out with the check in an envelope, holds it out then pulls it back and says "you sure you got it all done right?" My friend just looked at his watch, said "your payment is due, not a performance review." Guy handed it over quick and never tried it again. Some people just need that little push.
