Heard a freelancer say she sends invoices on Mondays only

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last week and overheard this designer say she never bills on Fridays because clients forget over the weekend. She said her Monday invoices get paid in 4 days on average. Has anyone else tried timing their invoices like that?

4 days on average" is pretty good honestly. But the thing nobody's talking about is how this totally depends on who your clients are. If you're working with small businesses or solopreneurs, they might be scrambling to pay bills on Monday too because they just got paid themselves. But if you're billing big companies or agencies, Monday is smart because their finance people are fresh and processing stuff first thing in the week. I think the real trick is matching your invoice day to when your specific clients pay their bills, not just following some rule. Like if you work with nonprofits, they might only cut checks on the 15th and 30th, so Monday doesn't matter anyway. The invoice day thing probably works best for freelancers with consistent corporate clients who have a weekly payment cycle.

So basically just bill them whenever they actually have money. Groundbreaking stuff.

Monday morning billing sounds great until you factor in the 15th of the month, when every single one of my clients has a payment due... @faith27 is right about nonprofits though, mine only cut checks on the 15th and 30th so Monday is basically irrelevant for me. Honestly I think it's more about when your bank processes stuff than when you send the invoice anyway.
