Took me 6 months to realize I was overpaying for a software subscription I barely used

I signed up for FreshBooks on a yearly plan back in January, thinking I'd use it for all my invoicing. Turns out I only sent like 4 invoices total and was paying $50 a month for features I never touched. Canceled it today after tallying up $300 down the drain. Has anyone else gotten burned by annual subscriptions that seemed like a deal at first?

Got burned by a similar deal with a project management tool last year. Signed up for the annual plan thinking I'd save money, but ended up only using it for two months before realizing it was overkill for my needs. Really stings when you see that total hit your bank account at the end of the year.

Hurts worse when you check your bank account and see that big charge all at once... I did the same thing with a design software suite I was sure I'd master. Ended up opening it maybe three times before I realized it did way more than I ever needed. Now I always start with the monthly plan even if it costs more per month. That way if I ditch it after two months I'm only out like forty bucks instead of four hundred. Learned that lesson the hard way too many times...

Dude, @rowanr88 totally nailed it with that two month thing - I did the same with a music production app I was sure I'd use every day, then forgot I even had it installed until the renewal email hit. At least we learned the lesson, even if it cost us a few hundred bucks.
