Vent: Client paid me with a jar of loose change from his truck

I did a $150 handyman job for a guy in Boise last month and when I asked for payment he handed me a 5 gallon bucket full of quarters, dimes, and pennies. He said it was his 'change jar from the last 2 years' and shrugged. I stood there in his driveway for 10 minutes counting while he watched, then realized I was short by $12.40. Has anyone else had a client try to pay in weird stuff and how do you handle it without losing your cool?

That bucket of coins would have tested my patience too. I used to think cash was cash no matter what form it came in, but getting paid in loose change completely changed my mind on that.

Getting paid in loose change is the worst.

Have you ever tried rolling all the coins yourself before hitting the bank, @shane_morgan? That worked for me when I got paid in loose change, it saved me from having to stand there sorting through them at the counter. Even if it takes a few minutes, it's way less awkward than dumping a bucket of coins on the teller's desk, lol.
