Just noticed how The Leftovers completely changed after season 1

I binged all three seasons last month and man, the difference is HUGE. Season 1 is all about grief and people acting weird, but from season 2 onward it turns into this wild mystery show with crazy plot twists. The shift happened right after they moved to that new town in Texas. I swear the tone went from depressing to almost fun somehow. Has anyone else felt like it's basically two different shows before and after that point?

Wait, am I the only one who got whiplash from that shift? I remember watching season 1 and feeling absolutely drained by how heavy everything was... like that whole episode focused on the guy screaming at people in the street. Then season 2 dropped and suddenly the show had this weird energy like they actually wanted me to enjoy watching it. The change felt so drastic I had to check if the same people were still writing it. I actually think the show got better when it stopped being so relentlessly miserable and let itself have a little fun with the mystery stuff.

Yeah totally agree with @the_daniel there, season 1 was like they wanted to make sure nobody felt good about anything ever. I remember watching that same street screaming episode and just thinking "is this supposed to be entertaining or are we just getting punished for watching?" And then season 2 hits and it felt like someone finally told the writers it was okay to have fun. The change was so obvious I actually went back to check the production credits too because I couldn't believe it was the same team. For me the mystery stuff in season 2 worked way better because they let the characters breathe between all the depressing moments. Like you could actually enjoy solving the puzzle instead of just feeling awful the whole time.
