My neighbor's kid told me to watch a show about a guy who makes chairs

He said it was the best thing he'd seen all year, which seemed odd. I gave 'The Repair Shop' a shot and binged six episodes in one sitting. It's just people fixing old things, but the stories behind each item are what get you. Anyone else find a show that sounded boring but turned out to be weirdly great?

A writer called this the "gentle TV" trend, shows without big fights or loud noises. It works because it lets you slow down and just watch something get better. That quiet focus can be really nice after a noisy day.

Six episodes in one sitting is a serious commitment. I get the appeal of the stories, but at the end of the day, it's still just watching other people fix stuff. I tried a show about competitive baking once, and it was the same thing. The drama felt a bit forced for something that's basically just fancy cake.

Yeah, the "forced drama" thing is exactly why I gave up on those shows. They have to make a cake seem like life or death to keep you watching. It just gets silly after a while.
