Question about turning on subtitles for every show I watch
It's uncovering little jokes I always missed.

Actually subtitles can totally kill the vibe sometimes. They pull your eyes down to text instead of letting you get lost in the scene, even with cool stuff like @barnes.ivan found. Doesn't reading them just make you miss the actual picture?

Yeah that part about subtitles pulling your eyes down is real at first. But for me, after a few minutes my brain just treats them like background noise and I watch the picture normally. The bigger issue for me, @the_rowan, is actually missing key lines of dialogue in a movie without them. Sometimes actors mumble or the music is too loud. I'd rather have the text and not need it than be totally lost on what people are saying. Getting lost in the scene is harder when you're trying to figure out the plot.

Have you ever checked if subtitles reveal hidden visual gags written into the scene? I once noticed a sign in the background of a comedy that had a pun only the subtitles described. That kind of detail is like a secret bonus track for fans. It makes rewatching shows feel completely fresh.
