Showerthought: I was watching shows all wrong for years

I kept starting new series and dropping them after two episodes, thinking they were boring. The trick is to commit to the first three episodes minimum, because that's when most shows find their footing. Anyone else have a specific episode number that's their 'make or break' point?

My mom always told me to give a new food three tries before I decided I hated it. It's the same with TV shows, or even meeting new people. We're all so quick to judge things in the first five minutes. It makes me wonder what good stuff I've missed out on because I didn't wait for it to get comfortable.

That's a nice way to look at it. My mom had a rule like that too, but it was mostly for lima beans. Still can't stand them after about thirty tries, so maybe some things are just bad from the start. Makes you wonder if we're too stubborn to quit on the bad stuff, not just too quick to quit on the good.

Guess I should try that three episode rule like @the_elizabeth said.

yeah i was totally the opposite for so long... i'd give a show like six or seven episodes and if i wasn't hooked by then i'd just drop it. but then i realized i was basically punishing myself for no reason, sitting through stuff i wasn't enjoying just because i felt like i had to. reading this made me think about that girl i met at a party once, i wrote her off after like ten minutes cause she seemed quiet but later we ended up talking for hours. now i try to give things a real chance, three episodes or even just one full conversation before i decide if it's for me. it's weird how fast we judge stuff but if you just wait a little bit, sometimes it clicks.
