Showerthought: I watched a show at 1.5x speed for a year before I noticed it was ruining the good parts for me
Last week I sat down to rewatch The Bear on a Sunday with my phone face down, and it hit me that I hadn't watched anything at normal speed since sometime in 2023. I started speeding stuff up back when I was doing 12 hour shift days at the gym and squeezing in three episodes a night, and somewhere along the way I just never stopped. The thing is, the fast version works fine for plot shows, but when I actually watched that kitchen scene in real time, the pauses and the quiet moments did way more than any twist did. Took me two years and probably 40 shows to catch it. So here's my two sides. One, speeding up is just a tool, and if you have a busy life, getting through a slow middle season is better than skipping the show. Two, some shows are built on timing and silence, and running them hot is like eating dinner in four minutes, you get full but you miss the meal. I genuinely don't know where the line is, maybe dramas slow and sitcoms fast. How do you all decide which shows get real time and which ones get the 1.5x treatment?
