My gas forge is eating through propane faster than I expected.
I refilled the tank twice this week just for small projects.

Look at it this way, forges are built to use a lot of fuel to get hot, but they shouldn't drain a tank that quick. I mean, clairep10's point about stuff guzzling power is fair for some things, but forges are different. Maybe it's just me, but when mine ate propane, it was always an air mix or insulation problem, not some big efficiency letdown. the_dylan's tips on checking pressure and flame color are a good start, idk. You probably just need to tweak your setup a bit.

Actually, maybe it's just a really thirsty forge. Some gear is just built to drink fuel, that's the trade-off for the heat. Could be working exactly as designed.

Your 'eating through propane' comment is SO relatable. I swear, everything from cars to home appliances just GUZZLES fuel or power now. It's like the promised efficiency never actually showed up.

Check your burner pressure with a gauge first, that's usually the culprit. Make sure your air mix isn't set too rich, you want a nice blue flame, not a lazy yellow one. Inspect your refractory lining for cracks or thin spots, because bad insulation just wastes heat. A cheap infrared thermometer can show you if you're running way hotter than you actually need for the steel you're working.
