Rant: Good luck finding a decent anvil that doesn't cost a month's rent.
The used market is all Chinese cast iron that cracks on the first strike.

Saw a 150lb Peter Wright for $500 locally last month. I used to chase new tools but that changed my mind. The old ones are just built different and last forever.

Tbh, rebound is the key thing nobody mentions. Good anvils bounce the hammer back, which makes forging easier and less tiring. That's why old ones feel so much better to use, even if they're beat up.

It's like everything is made cheaper now, not just anvils. I mean, my mom's old kitchen mixer from the 70s still works perfectly, but the new one I bought broke in a year. @sam912 is right about old tools being built different, they just have that solid feel and last. Maybe it's just me but it feels like companies don't care about how long things last anymore.
