Last Tuesday was my best board game night in like a year

Tbh I had this random Tuesday where everything just clicked. I hosted a game night at my place in Denver and we played Terraforming Mars for the first time in months. Usually my group gets distracted or someone leaves early, but this time all six of us were locked in for four hours straight. No one checked their phones, no arguments over rule clarifications, just good plays and trash talk. I ended up winning by only 3 points because my friend Mike pulled a late game plant bomb that almost took it. It felt like the old days when we first got into board games and it was all fresh. Has anyone else had a night like that where the energy was just perfect?

Oh for sure, but I think the real secret was having exactly six people. Most games just hit different with a full table that's all equally invested, one flake or newbie can totally kill that flow.

My buddy had a six player Catan night last week and one guy rage quit over a sheep trade.

Three points though? That's barely a win. Sounds like Mike handed it to you and you got lucky. I don't know, I've had plenty of four hour game nights where everyone stayed but the "perfect energy" just meant one guy was winning by a landslide and nobody wanted to admit it was boring. My group did a full Eclipse session last month, six people, no phones, zero drama. Still felt like a slog by hour three. Maybe your "old days" weren't that magical either.
