Overheard a guy at my FLGS say he'll never play a 4+ hour game again, and it made me realize how much I love those epic sessions
He said he sold his copy of Twilight Imperium after only one play because he couldn't commit the time, but that 6 hour game at Mox Boarding House last spring is still my favorite board gaming memory - anyone else still chasing that one long game high?

And honestly, I get why that guy walked away from TI after one play, but he's missing out on something really special. In my experience, those epic long games are where the best stories come from, the kind of memorable moments you just don't get from a quick 90 minute euro. I've found that once you hit that 4 or 5 hour mark, people start to loosen up and the real table talk happens, which is half the fun for me. Your mileage may vary, but I'd rather play one game I'll still be talking about next month than three forgettable filler games any day of the week.

Stick with it Dave, I've had three TI games where the real magic didn't kick in until hour six.

Think the same thing happens with hiking, the first hour is just getting your legs under you but the real payoff comes way later when you're deep in the woods and find that perfect spot nobody else knows about.
