Appreciation post: the crusty old timer who swore by soapstone on boiler tube layout
I figured soapstone was just an old habit he never let go of, but he marked a whole mud drum with it in 20 minutes and every cut landed dead on the first pass. Meanwhile my paint marker smeared off twice in the same heat. Any of you still running soapstone, or am I the last guy switching over?

Soapstone works because it leaves dry dust that grips hot steel, unlike your wet marker.
