Burned $700 on a flux core setup I barely touched

Picked up a Hobart Handler 140 and a spool of flux core last spring for some thin tank patches, figured I'd save time over stick. Three jobs later it's still sitting in my truck bed, mostly because the spatter cleanup eats more hours than the welding saves. Anyone else shell out for a wire feeder and end up going back to 7018 rods? What do you do with gear that just collects dust?

Spatter cleanup eats more hours than the welding saves" sounds like a fresh rod and a clean tip would fix most of that. Wire feed has a learning curve, but three jobs is barely enough to blame the machine. Keep it in the truck, you'll grab it for the next quick patch and it'll finally pay for itself.
