Can we talk about when folks think our work is no big deal?

My neighbor saw me grinding some plate steel in the yard and said it looked like easy stuff. Tried to explain the precision needed for vessel integrity, but he just shrugged. Made me feel like all our skill gets brushed off. How do you handle when people underestimate what we do?

Man, that hits close to home. My cousin once watched me rebuild a carburetor and said it was just turning screws. Tried to explain the timing and fuel mix, but he acted like it was nothing, missing all the knowledge behind it. They don't get that a wrong move could mean leaks or worse in your case. But hey, at least we know what we're doing, even if they think it's easy. Makes you want to hand them the tools and say 'show me,' but that never ends well.

People miss that dismissing skilled work often leads to them paying for the mistakes later, right? It’s funny how the "simple" job suddenly needs a pro when their quick fix fails.

Ever had someone call your detailed work simple? I once spent hours tuning a piano only for a friend to say it was just hitting keys.
