Last week a retired fitter at the union hall in Gary showed me his hand-written logbook from 1994 with every tube replacement and pressure test noted down, numbers that matched our records but with little side notes like 'rainy, keep an eye on south header.' It hit different because he caught a recurring corrosion pattern I'd missed in three seasons of data, just by flipping pages. Am I wrong for thinking we should all keep paper backups in the truck instead of trusting only the tablet?}

Man, that old timer basically had a crystal ball in a spiral notebook! I swear the guys who wrote stuff down in grease pens back then had some kind of sixth sense for trouble before it even happened. My tablet has all the fancy graphs and alerts, but it never once told me 'hey, check the south header when it's damp outside.' That's the kind of gut feeling you can't download, you know? Probably the only thing my tablet logs better is how fast I can drain the battery looking at useless trend lines. I'd say keep both, but if the power goes out or the network craps out, that dusty old logbook in the glove box is gonna be the hero of the day. Last time my tablet froze mid-inspection, I was stuck drawing pressure readings on a napkin like a caveman, so I get the appeal.
