Pro tip: old timer in Baton Rouge told me to preheat my tube ends before rolling, and my joints quit weeping
Ran into him at a turnaround job in Baton Rouge back in March. He said he always warms the tube sheet area to about 150 degrees before rolling, especially on cold mornings. I tried it on my next 60 tubes and did not have a single leak on the hydro. Do you all preheat before expanding or am I late to this?
Preheat is the real deal. Ran hundreds of tubes on a condenser job in south Louisiana, winter mornings get cold and damp. Tube sheet just sweats. Roller goes in cold and the metal grabs uneven. Warms up and everything seats better. Old timers know. 150 is about right, not too hot to cook the lube. Never going back to cold rolling on a morning turnaround.
