Almost got stranded on the Rae Lakes Loop after a storm washed out the creek crossing

I was at the first big crossing below Glen Pass and the water was already over my waist at 7am, and if I hadn't turned back right then I would have been stuck on the wrong side for days, has anyone else dealt with sudden creek swell on the Sierra high routes?

PSA: Those 'free' laminate samples at Home Depot are a TRAP

I went to the Home Depot in Portland last weekend to grab some laminate floor samples for my laundry room. I picked up 8 of those tiny 2x2 inch squares and got charged $4.50 at checkout because they're apparently only free if you return them or some nonsense. Has anyone else gotten burned by this hidden policy or is it just my store being weird?

Switched from working 9-5 to block scheduling and my stress dropped by half

I used to just take whatever work came in and tried to squeeze it into my week however I could. But after a 3 month stretch of 60 hour weeks last spring, I started batching my deep work into 3 hour blocks with a 15 minute break between each. Now I actually stop at 30 hours a week and my clients are happier with the quality. Has anyone else tried time blocking and seen a difference in their energy levels?

Spent 3 hours trying to fix a seam that kept twisting on my dress form...

I was working on a simple A-line skirt pattern last Sunday and the side seam kept twisting no matter what I did. I tried re-pinning it, adjusting the grainline, even re-cutting the panels twice. After about 3 hours of frustration, I realized the issue was that my fabric had a subtle bias stretch I wasn't accounting for when I laid out the pattern pieces. I usually cut everything on the straight grain but this cotton blended had a little give that pulled the seam off center. What finally fixed it was letting the fabric hang overnight on the form before sewing the side seam again. Has anyone else run into this with softer cottons or jersey blends where the fabric moves on you like that?

Warning: My portfolio site crashed right before a big submission deadline

Last Tuesday at 8pm I hit submit on my ArtStation link for a job application and got a 500 error. My whole portfolio site was down for 6 hours because some automatic plugin update broke the theme. Had to scramble at 2am to rebuild the gallery page from a backup.

My sister called my air fryer chicken 'soggy' and she was right

I was cooking wings at 375 for 15 minutes like always. She said they looked pale and limp. So I cranked it to 400, flipped them halfway, and let them go 20 minutes total. Now the skin actually gets crispy. Has anyone else been undercooking their wings and not realizing it?

Spent 3 hours chasing a phantom fridge leak, turned out to be the icemaker line dripping down the back wall

I had a Whirlpool side-by-side that was pooling water under the crisper drawers, so I swapped the drain pan and defrost heater in under 45 minutes. Put it all back together and it still leaked, then after rechecking everything for another 2 hours I noticed the water line connection had a tiny pinhole that was spraying up behind the unit. Has anyone else had a fridge leak that was coming from a totally unexpected spot like that?

Hot take: my grocery bill in Cincinnati went from $120 a week to under $70

I used to buy a lot of pre-cut veggies and those little salad kits, which added up so fast. Now I just grab whole heads of lettuce, a big bag of carrots, and a bunch of onions from the produce section. The change happened over about two months after I started planning meals around what was on sale. Anyone else have a simple switch that saved them a bunch?

Question about using a rasp vs. a grinder for final finish

Had a tough quarter crack on a Percheron in Boise last month, debated between my old hand rasp and a new 4-inch grinder. Went with the rasp for more control, and the owner said it was the cleanest finish she'd seen. Anyone else lean on hand tools for tricky spots like that?

Watching a barista steam milk at a cafe in Boise made me rethink my facial massage technique

The way she used slow, deep, circular motions to get that perfect microfoam is exactly how I should be working serums into the skin. Has anyone else gotten a technique idea from a totally different job?
