My friend Sarah insisted we read 'The Silent Patient' for our club in Chicago
She said the twist would blow our minds, but honestly I saw it coming from page 50. The whole group loved it, but I felt the characters were flat and the setup was obvious. Has anyone else felt let down by a book everyone else raved about?

Ever notice how some books get so much hype they can't possibly live up to it? I heard a podcast where they called it the "hype backlash." Makes you wonder if we'd like these books more if we just found them on our own.

Totally felt that with Gone Girl.

Isn't that just how everything works now? Movies, shows, even restaurants. The buzz gets so loud the real thing can't compete. Feels like we're all just setting ourselves up to be let down.
