Our book club spent two meetings arguing about whether a character's choice was realistic
We read a novel where the main person leaves their family, and half the group said it was unbelievable while the other half defended it. It took us over three hours total to finally agree to disagree and move on. Has your group ever gotten stuck on a single character's decision for that long?

My friend's group got stuck like @skyler_kelly69's, but they finally moved on after someone found the author's old interview.

Ever had that happen? We got stuck on a character's dumb job choice once. What finally worked was someone just reading the page out loud where they explained their reason.

Oh yeah, we once spent a whole meeting going in circles about why a character wouldn't just call the cops. It got so bad, like @xenam84 said, we had to look up what the author meant. Turns out the answer was stupid and we all felt dumb for arguing.

Nah, I totally get that. My old group had a two hour argument about whether a character should've just used a smartphone GPS instead of getting lost. Turns out the author never owned a smartphone and had no idea how maps work. @kimr91, your story about the cops thing reminds me of that. We finally just made up our own reason and moved on. Felt a bit silly afterwards, ngl.
