The Jane Austen vote that split our book club in half

Last month at our meeting in the back room of the public library, we had a real fight break out over which Austen novel to read next. Six of us wanted Pride and Prejudice because it's comfortable, but four argued for Mansfield Park since nobody actually remembers it. The discussion got so heated that our moderator actually called a five minute time out. We finally settled it by agreeing to read Mansfield Park this month and P&P next, but honestly I'm still curious if other clubs handle these taste debates with a simple vote or if they have a better system. How do you folks pick a book when half the room wants the classic and half wants the deep cut?

We did a ranked vote once. The deep cut won. Problem solved.
