Pro tip: picking between a curved needle and a straight one for the spine stitching
Last week I finally had to pick a side on something I kept putting off. I was rebinding a 1930s cookbook for a lady in Dayton and the spine was too tight for my usual straight needle. I had a curved needle sitting in my kit for two years and never touched it because it looked like a hassle to thread. So I tried the curved one on three signature sections. It took me 20 minutes just to figure out the angle, but once I got the motion down I flew through the rest of the book. The stitches came out way tighter and I didn't stab myself once, which used to happen a lot with the straight needle in tight spines. My hands hurt less too because I wasn't fighting the angle. So now I want to know, do you all keep both needles on the bench at all times, or do you just grab one and make it work for everything?
