Just found out ferns have a secret underground network and I'm weirdly annoyed

Was reading a plant forum at 2am and stumbled on a study about how ferns share sugars through their roots with neighboring plants. Apparently some species in the Pacific Northwest can form these huge linked colonies underground, like one giant organism. I've been babying my potted ferns for 3 years, thinking they were loners, and now I find out they're basically social butterflies. Has anyone else had their whole view of a plant flipped by a random fact like this? Should I repot mine together or is that a bad idea?

Skip the repotting together unless they're the same species and you want a giant colony taking over your pot. In containers, they'll choke each other out fighting for the same dirt instead of doing the cool forest thing. Keep them separate, just let them have a few inches between pots and whisper sweet nothings to each other from across the shelf.
