Tried a string line on my 30 foot garden wall in Bend and now my 4 foot level is collecting dust
I built a 30 foot garden wall in Bend last month, running a string line for the first course and checking with a 4 foot level after, and the whole thing came out dead straight with no headaches. Before that I was laying every course off the level alone and fighting small dips the whole way down the run. Does anyone still bother with a level on long straight runs, or do you just trust the line once it's set?
Use a level on every course anyway, because a string line can sag or get bumped and you won't catch it until the wall is way off. The line gets you close but the level keeps you honest the whole way up.
