Dried beans vs canned beans after a $60 grocery bill disaster
I finally ran the numbers after a rough week last month where I spent $60 on groceries and barely got any meals out of it. Decided to try dried beans for the first time, a whole bag of black beans cost me $1.20 versus $2.50 for a single can. Soaked them overnight and cooked them low and slow, got about 4 cans worth of beans for that price. Anyone else made the switch and found it worth the extra time?

My buddy Jake tried this exact thing last year. He left the beans soaking overnight and then forgot about them for like 2 days. Said the whole kitchen smelled like a science experiment gone wrong for a week.

Wait hold on @lisab32 is it really that bad though? I've left beans out for a day and a half before and yeah it got a little funky but nothing a good rinse and some baking soda couldn't fix. Maybe Jake left them in a hot spot or something. I think people overreact to stuff like this all the time.

Dried beans are one of those things where the time is the only real cost. Feels like everything in life is either paying with money or paying with time these days. Once you realize that trade off, it gets easier to decide what's worth it.
