Hot take: you don't need fancy rice for a good meal
I keep seeing posts where people say you must buy jasmine or basmati rice for flavor. For my family of four, I've been using plain long-grain white rice from the big bag for years. It costs about 80 cents a pound at my local store in Omaha. I cook it with a bit of broth powder and a bay leaf, and it tastes just fine with our beans or stew. Has anyone else found that simple rice works just as well for your budget dinners?

Right? What kind of broth powder do you use, just the cheap bouillon cubes?

I switched to Better Than Bouillon paste last year and it changed everything.

Come on, you're really missing out though. That cheap rice is just bland filler, it's not even close to the real thing. A good basmati has its own flavor that makes the whole meal better.
