I finally looked up how much food waste costs the average home

I was reading a report from the USDA last Tuesday and it said a family of four throws away about $1,500 worth of food every year. That's more than my monthly grocery budget. It made me realize that being 'budget friendly' isn't just about cheap ingredients, it's about using every single thing you buy. I've started planning meals around what's about to go bad first. Has anyone else changed their shopping or cooking to cut down on waste?

What's the biggest thing you've learned from planning meals this way?

It's a huge relief to not have that daily "what's for dinner" panic. Saves so much time and stress during the week.

It even helps cut down on food waste and impulse grocery buys.
