My cousin told me his $3 dinner was better than my takeout
We were at his place in Cincinnati last month and he made this thing with a can of beans, some rice, and a fried egg. He said 'This costs less than a coffee and it's real food.' I've been making it twice a week since. What's your cheapest meal that actually feels like a real dinner?

What kind of pasta do you use? I do something similar but with a can of chickpeas instead of tomato soup. I'll fry some garlic in the pot first, then add the chickpeas with their liquid and a handful of small pasta like ditalini. It makes this thick, starchy broth that's so good. A squeeze of lemon at the end makes it feel fancy for almost no money.

My go-to is a can of tomato soup with a handful of elbow macaroni boiled right in the pot. It costs maybe a dollar fifty total and makes a big bowl. I'll throw in some black pepper and a slice of toast on the side. It's warm and filling, way better than it sounds. That kind of meal makes you feel like you actually cooked something.
