My pressure cooker lid seal gave out mid-dinner and I actually prefer it that way

The rubber gasket split on my $30 pressure cooker during a batch of black beans last Tuesday and now the beans come out way better in a regular pot with a lid. Has anyone else had a cheaper appliance fail and end up liking your backup method more?

That gasket splitting mid-cook must have been quite the mess on your stovetop. Black beans are forgiving enough that a regular pot with a lid can do the job just as well, maybe even better for texture. There is something satisfying about a simpler method working out in the end.

Honestly, that "simpler method" part really got me thinking. Last week I tried making beans in a regular pot for the first time in ages and I kinda forgot how much I like being able to stir them and check the texture without worrying about a pressure release valve. Plus, I think the broth gets way thicker and more flavorful when it's not all sealed up tight. Ngl, I might just stick with the pot from now on, even if it takes a little longer.

Yeah I read somewhere that slow soaking brings out better flavor too lol
