Rant: Eggs were $6.99 a dozen at my Kroger in Cincinnati and I just stood there doing math in my head
I pulled up an old receipt from 2019 and a dozen large eggs rang up at $1.29, so I want to know what everyone's actually paying per dozen right now and whether it's cheaper to just switch to beans for breakfast.

That $1.29 from 2019 is real but it was kind of a fluke year, eggs sat low for a while and then bird flu hit in 2022 and wiped out a ton of hens, so the jump is not just normal inflation. Here in Ohio I'm seeing $4.49 to $5.99 depending on the store and whether it's store brand or Eggland's. Beans are cheaper for sure, but eggs still win on protein per dollar unless you're buying the fancy ones.
