A hostel owner in Lisbon charged me for the towel, so is 'free' breakfast ever really free?
I stayed at a 12 euro spot in Lisbon where the sign said free breakfast, but the towel was 3 euro and the coffee machine wanted coins. It bugged me for two weeks, and now I split every booking into two groups, the sticker price and the hidden extras, but my friend says chasing 3 euro fees is a waste of time. Which side are you on, do you hunt down every small charge or just pay it and move on?

Ha, a "free" breakfast where the coffee wants coins is basically a trap with a sign on it. I'm with you on this one, since I'd rather know the real nightly cost up front than find out at the front desk. Three euro is small, but getting surprised is the part that stings, not the amount.
