Hot take: I gave up on budget airlines after a guy in line at 6am did the math out loud
He said his $39 fare to Dallas ended up costing $112 once he added the seat and the bag, and I checked my own receipt and he was right. Now I just look at the total before I book, does anyone have a site that adds the fees up for you?

Skip the site and just use the airline's own checkout to price it out, then compare that final number across a couple of carriers before you commit. I got burned the same way on a $45 flight to Phoenix that turned into $130 with a carry-on and a seat I actually wanted. Now I always price the whole thing at once and it takes five extra minutes but saves me real money.
