Why does nobody talk about ditching guided tours for budget travel?

On my last trip to Europe, everyone was pushing guided tours as the must-do thing. I skipped them and used free walking apps instead, which saved me a lot and let me find cool places on my own. Do you think tours are overrated for saving money?

Tours are just expensive ways to hear stories your app tells for free.

Remember that tours aren't only about saving cash. They can give you stories and details you'd miss on your own, especially at historical spots. But using apps to wander freely is definitely a smart budget move lol.

Absolutely agree that skipping tours lets your budget stretch much further. Found a fantastic local cafe in Rome last year just by wandering with a free map app. That kind of happy accident never happens when you're stuck following a guide.
