I ran the numbers on my grocery delivery habit and almost fell over

So I was going through my bank statements from last month trying to figure out where my extra cash was going. I always thought I was being smart by ordering groceries online because I avoid impulse buys at the store, right? Well I added up all the delivery fees, service fees, and tips and it came to $87 extra just for the month of March. Thats over a thousand bucks a year just for the convenience of not walking into a Walmart. I found this out by literally writing down every single order cost from my account history. I live in Phoenix so delivery is pretty common here but still. Has anyone else done the math on their delivery habits and gotten a shock?

Read a study recently that said the average person spends about 20 percent more in-store because of all the stuff they grab at the last minute. So your $87 in fees might actually be a bargain if you're skipping that extra spending. Take it with a grain of salt though, every situation is different.

Oh come on, you're really gonna blame the delivery fees? You paid $87 for the time and gas you saved not driving to the store, waiting in line, and hauling bags through the Phoenix heat. That's like three tanks of gas these days. Plus you said yourself you avoid impulse buys, so you're probably spending less on random crap you don't need. I'd rather pay a little extra and skip the headache of crowded aisles and checkout lines. But hey, if you've got the time and energy to shop in person, more power to you.

Totally changed my mind tbh. I was all "delivery is just a money grab" until I added up what I actually waste on gas and random snacks when I go in person. You're right, $87 is nothing compared to the time I save plus not dragging myself through that Phoenix heat.
