My neighborhood's obsessed with budgeting apps (seriously, every other chat), but I stick with my notebook.
Digital tools overcomplicate what a simple list and pen handle better for me.

Exactly, and @luna_murray99 is onto something with the wall calendar. My whole system is a college-ruled notebook and checking it against my bank site once a week. The physical act of writing a number down makes it stick in my head way better than any auto-categorized app transaction ever did.

My notebook has never once asked for a software update or tried to sell me a subscription lmao. People act like you need an app for every single thought. Half the time I see someone with a fancy system, they're just writing down 'buy milk' same as my sticky note. There's something deeply satisfying about a pen that just works without needing a password. Let the tech bros have their hundred dollar digital planners, I'll stick with my three dollar legal pad. It's not broke, so I'm not fixing it.

Tell me about it. I tried three different budgeting apps last year and every single one had some annoying glitch. One deleted my grocery list for no reason, another kept crashing on the 1st of the month. Now I just use a basic wall calendar and a red pen for bills due. Seeing it all in big letters on the kitchen wall works way better for my brain than some tiny phone screen. The apps can keep their fancy charts.

That bit about the pen just working without a password is too real. My phone's budgeting app once locked me out for "suspicious activity" because I tried to log in at the grocery store. Like yes, very suspicious to check my budget while spending money. bell.harper has it right that the old way just works, no fuss. These apps act like they're doing you a favor while constantly breaking. A paper calendar doesn't crash on bill day. My notebook has never demanded a two-factor code to see how broke I am. Physical stuff just wins.
