My neighborhood's obsessed with budgeting apps (seriously, every other chat), but I stick with my notebook.

That bit about the pen just working without a password is too real. My phone's budgeting app once locked me out for "suspicious activity" because I tried to log in at the grocery store. Like yes, very suspicious to check my budget while spending money. bell.harper has it right that the old way just works, no fuss. These apps act like they're doing you a favor while constantly breaking. A paper calendar doesn't crash on bill day. My notebook has never demanded a two-factor code to see how broke I am. Physical stuff just wins.

Vent: My forge buddy sticks to hand tools while I want more power

You're right on the money, @lily191. I had a buddy who only used a hand plane for every wood project, claiming it was the real test of skill. Watching him wear himself out on simple tasks was frustrating. What finally got through to him was when I borrowed his shop and used my electric planer for the bulk work, then handed it back for the final touches by hand. He saw he could keep the careful work he loved without the endless grinding. Now he uses power for the big parts and saves his energy for where it counts. It's not about giving up tradition, but about being smart with your time and effort.

Freelance contract gives client total code control. Need advice.

Think about the client's own tech debt down the line. If you can't reuse standard code, every bug fix becomes a custom job, slowing updates. That might cost them more than owning just the unique parts.

Old bakers like me still believe in lard for flaky pastry, butter be damned.

I was always on team butter for pie crusts, but now I'm kinda curious. Might have to give lard a try and see what happens.

Pre-setting game pieces sped up our game nights

Took me forever to admit presetup was worth the effort. @ninataylor is right about it being a game changer once you get past that.
