The $65 meal kit subscription I canceled after two weeks in Ohio

I signed up for one of those meal delivery boxes back in March when they offered a half price deal. Two weeks in, I realized I was paying $65 a week for ingredients I could get at Kroger for about $30. The portions were small, the prep took longer than the 20 minutes promised, and I threw out half of the sauces. Has anyone else figured out a way to make these boxes work without blowing their grocery budget?

Those boxes are really a trap if you're not careful with the math. One thing nobody talks about is how they secretly train you to cook differently, so you start buying stuff you never used before and your grocery bill goes up anyway. I kept the recipe cards and now I just recreate the good ones with store bought stuff, but I skip the whole subscription part. The trick for me was using them as a menu idea generator instead of a food source. Once I did that, I stopped feeling ripped off and actually looked forward to trying new combos on my own.

Wait, you actually kept the recipe cards? That never crossed my mind, but honestly, this just changed my whole take on those boxes.
