Why does nobody talk about the shock of seeing late fees pile up?

I missed a payment once and the fees kept coming, which is why I set up auto-pay right after.

Honestly, I see it totally different from @patricia_bennett52. Late fees are just the COST of missing deadlines, you know? Like, when I forgot a credit card payment, the fee SUCKED but it reminded me to be more on top of my bills. Auto-pay helps, but sometimes that SHOCK is what we need to learn.

But what if the punishment doesn't fit the mistake?

Late fees are a weird design choice when you think about it. They punish people who already might be short on cash, which can make the problem worse. It's less about teaching a lesson and more about kicking someone when they're down.

Yeah that feeling hits hard because it's not just bills, it's like this quiet tax on being busy or forgetting things. I see it everywhere now, subscriptions that quietly renew, parking tickets that double if you don't see the notice. It feels like the whole system is built to profit from those small moments we drop the ball. Setting up auto-pay was a total game changer for me, it just cuts off that whole stress loop before it can even start.
