My grandma told me to stop using washi tape as a bookmark and now my journal is falling apart

My grandma saw me flipping open my bullet journal the other day and she goes "you're ruining that spine with all that thick tape." I laughed it off because I thought she was just being old fashioned about my pretty decorations. Fast forward three months and my whole July spread literally fell out because the washi tape buildup cracked the binding. The tape looked cute but it was like adding a stack of stickers to every page and the glue dried out. Now I have to re-bind the whole journal with stronger thread which is a pain. I never thought a tiny roll of decorative tape could wreck a notebook like that. Has anyone else found a good way to mark pages without destroying the spine?

Oof, that's rough. Grandma knew what she was talking about.

Oh man "adding a stack of stickers to every page" that's EXACTLY what I went through. I had a pocket notebook I used for work that I crammed with those little tape flags and washi strips and the whole thing basically exploded into confetti one day on the job site. I just use a thin piece of ribbon now and tape it to the inside cover, way less drama.

Did you try gluing a paperclip to the cover instead, @the_drew?
