inFound out most popular shonen anime have the exact same plot structure and it kind of ruined things for me
Started off thinking the same way you did actually. Used to defend Naruto and Bleach as totally unique stories. Then a buddy showed me how the Chunin Exams arc and the Soul Society arc both have the exact same "hero gets stronger, loses a friend, then wins with a power boost" structure. Hit me pretty hard when I went back and watched them side by side. The tournament arc in Dragon Ball Z and the Forest of Death arc in Naruto are basically the same episode with different paint jobs. That blog opened my eyes in a way I didn't really want, but can't unsee now.

inUnpopular opinion: chasing the perfect 1 degree slope on floor drains is a waste of time
Guess what happens when that perfectly leveled toilet sits for a year and then the house foundation settles just a hair. You end up with a wobble that was fine on day one but now drives you nuts every time you sit down. The real trick is leaving just a tiny bit of play in the shims so the toilet can settle with the house without cracking the porcelain. That way it stays rock solid through seasonal shifts and weird slab movements. I learned that one by finding a cracked toilet base the hard way after a wet spring.

inCaught myself using the wrong side of a speed square for years
Yeah that square trick is a game changer for sure. You just have to make sure the lip is snug against the board edge and hold it tight. If you let it shift even a hair your cut will be off and you'll be filing down the end again. I learned that the hard way when I was helping my neighbor build a deck. Another thing is to always mark your cut on the face of the board not the edge, it keeps your line straight. Once you get that down you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

inJust read a report about cutterhead bearing failure on an Ellicott 370
Read on a heavy equipment forum last month that some guys go years without touching grease ports, just top off the oil and call it good. That sounds like a recipe for bearings to seize up and cost you a whole machine. If you check the manual most manufacturers say flush every 500 hours, which seems reasonable to me.

inOverheard a homeowner say laminate is 'just as good' as hardwood today
My sister just had to rip out the hardwood in her living room after 12 years. The original stuff was fine, no major damage or anything, but she just got sick of the color and the scratches from her dog. She ended up putting in that luxury vinyl plank stuff and honestly she's way happier with it. It just feels like the whole "pass it down" argument only works if you actually want to keep looking at the same floors for decades. I mean, not everyone is into that antique look.
